The Rural Echo journos of Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School (SEPNAS) sealed off their tickets to Tuguegarao City as they dominated the individual press competitions of the 2019 Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held in Tayug, Pangasinan, November 7 and 8.
The bulk winnings of San Carlos City Division were made possible by equally competent writers, who will be representing the Ilocos Region for the 2020 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) in Tuguegarao City come February 17-21, 2020 with the theme, "Empowering Communities through Campus Journalism."
Out of 14 competing divisions of Region I, the following journalists were adjuged as RSPC winners and NSPC qualiers: Gabrielle Saura — 1st Place, Editorial Writing (Filipino); Edrell Cabatbat — 2nd Place, Editorial Writing (English) and 7th Place, Column Writing (English); Nathan Dave De Guzman — 2nd Place, Sports Writing (Filipino); Jervie Anne Apostol — 2nd Place, Copyreading and Headline Writing (English); and Trissia Dawn Soriano — 3rd Place, Photojournalism (Filipino).
Asked about the secret of the winnings of SEPNAS, The Rural Echo Editor-in-Chief Edrell Cabatbat said, "These laurels placed around our necks are all a matter of faith and hardwork combined. This is truly one of the golden years of The Rural Echo. This is our crowning glory!"
