Sepnasians reads their way to Success

English Language is the medium of instruction in almost all of the subjects in the Junior High School; thus, comprehension plays a vital role in processing the bulk of complexities of knowledge, information, and skills in various learning activities that affects the learners’ progress.

Likewise, reading is a complex thinking activity that is also interactive, constructive and integrative process using basic skills advance strategies to make meaning . It is not merely a skill, but it is also an engagement of the person in a conceptual and social world. These engagements are vital because they start “a positive spiral of reading, knowing and sharing.” Reading is an important skill that needs to be developed in learners.

In line with the DepEd program, “Brigada sa Pagbasa”, the SEPNAS English Teachers together with some invited stakeholders headed by Mrs. Evelyn L. Mendoza, conducted a “Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers” a program which aims to support the development of reading skills of the incoming G7 SEPNAS learners.  With this program and activities that we conducted during the Brigada Eskwela, we envision lesser number of struggling readers in this school for the school year 2022-2023 compared to that of the previous school year.

SEPNAS renews strength in God

Finding rest in God whenever we feel tired should be a habit everyone must possess. The “Brigada sa Paghahandang Spiritual” took place last August 12, 2022, at Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School’s Perez Hall. It was led by one of SEPNAS’ stakeholder, the Faith Assembly of God together with Mr. Ronald Cristobal of Mathematics Department.

“Our keeper is persistent in watering and nurturing us. In God, we are blessed beyond measure, and He has a wonderful plan of us,” said by Pastor Mark as he tells the story of a Chinese Bamboo plant which takes 5 long years before its shrub come out, and only 5 weeks in reaching 90 feet taller. He also said that the root of the bamboo is longer than how tall it is from the ground. The story made everyone realize that no matter how slow their progress may seem, something great is about to happen as long as they continue to persevere. Dr. Marites V. Cabatbat, the school’s principal, also inspired everyone as she shares how good God has been to her for her miraculous brain aneurism surgery and recovery. She is a living proof of how great our God is. Aside from the heart-warming worships songs being sang by their band, the attendees of the event participated in a session which centred in knowing God.

Indeed, everyone felt blessed beyond measure despite the lack of time to rest because of the early start of the school year 2022-2023. By believing in God, receiving God, and having faith in God, the SEPNAS teachers, non-teaching staff, students, and other stakeholders are now ready to ace another school year with a well-rested mind, heart, and spirit.

Lingaw Panangaro Radiates Love at SEPNAS

“Love is sharing, Sharing is love”. Indeed, It is! This prevailed when SEPNAS

Class 1991 visited our school last Saturday, August 13, 2022 to fulfill its tradition of showing love to the less fortunate Sepnasians. This “Lingaw Panangaro” started wayback 2009 and it is continually giving its selfless support by distributing school supplies and scholarships to deserving students. This year, 800 students went home wearing sweet smiles on their faces, bringing with them the school supplies that Class 1991 provided. It was really priceless to watch their happy faces.

What makes this project more praise-worthy is the fact that at present the scholars whom they helped are now professional teachers and they are of big help to their own families.

Kudos Class 1991!!! Balbaleg ya salamat ed panangaro yo!

Healthy Body, Healthy Soul

The 30th of August, 2022 (Tuesday) marked a very essential part in the lives of Sepnasians. It really gave them an opportunity to listen and savor the words of God while Pastor Norberto Magalona along with his wife Lydia Ariza, both from Victory Church International Ministries shared very significant verses from the Holy Bible. This was held at the Perez Hall os SEPNAS.

The event was inspired by the theme: “Aktibong Katawan at Ispiritwal na Kalusugan Tungo sa Wagas na Kaalaman”. With this theme, 200 food packs and 150 notebooks were handed to 200 Grade 7 students. This significant event is a simple yet meaningful example of a very remarkable proverb taken from  the gospel of Matthew 4:4 “But He answered and said, it is written Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”. This Biblical truth is also true outside of a theological context for it is Psychological as well.

SEPNAS conducts Agricultural Training

Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School is known for its bountiful crops, and green fields. Knowing that investments in agriculture are the best weapon against hunger and poverty, Dr. Larry Magleo, the school farming coordinator, initiated the “Brigada para sa Pangkahusayang Pangkabuhayan at Pang-agrikultura” together with the support of Dr. Marites V. Cabatbat.

The project aims to promote and advocate proper and modernized ways on agriculture and sustainability. With the assistance of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office last August 17, 2022, at SEPNAS Perez Hall, headed by Dr. Marvin De Guzman Quilates, the seminar-training proceeded with an enlightening discussion regarding organic farming and its importance. After the lecture session, the students, parents, and TVE teachers participated in an activity that demonstrates how to turn kitchen waste into organic fertilizer. All the attendees wrapped up with not just agricultural knowledge, but a lifelong skill.

Truly, Agriculture is a fundamental source of national prosperity. With everyone's participation and eagerness to learn something new, the 1-day training ended fruitfully.

SEPNAS' Fitness and Kindness

"Exercise does not only changes your body, but it also changes your mind, your attitude, and your mood," with this, Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School launched a Zumba for a Cause Project that made every sepnasians move and grooved. This amazing endeavor was made possible by the most energetic Zumba instructors, Coach Renerose Regaton, Coach Zin Joyce Limon, Coach Vincent, and Aero Group together with the support of Arch. Ronnie Chua, the Alumni President, ChikaBabes with Dr. Mondok, the retired Teachers, the school's teaching and non-teaching force, SDRRM, SSG officers, and other stakeholders.

The proceeds from the sold tickets for this feat will bring new hope to students as they purchase and distributed white t-shirts for the less fortunate students of the school. With the whole SEPNAS family, headed by Dr. Marites Cabatbat, dancing their way to getting fit while being kind, the said project ended with a bang.

One Shot, One Heal: Booster for the Better

Sharing in the commitment to a stronger nationwide booster campaign, Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School together with the City Health Office and Schools Division Office Medical Unit of San Carlos City conducted the One Shot, One Heal: Booster for the Better, a COVID-19 booster vaccination drive held at SEPNAS Amphitheater last August 19, 2022.

Dr. Edwin Guinto, the Head Doctor of the City Health Office, led the Literacy/Awareness Campaign about vaccines wherein he discussed the benefits of getting vaccinated to debunk the myths and other beliefs about COVID-19 vaccines and clear up confusion with reliable facts. A total of 70 people comprised of teachers, students, parents, utility workers, and other stakeholders of SEPNAS got vaccinated through the joint effort of CHO and SDO San Carlos City Medical Unit.

The event was part of the school’s Brigada Eskwela activities/programs about the theme, “Brigada Eskwela: Tugon sa Hamon ng Ligtas na Balik-Aral which helps to promote the importance of COVID-19 vaccines and ensure a safe school environment for the return of face-to-face classes

Rejuvenating Oneself, Embracing New Self

Michael Ramon A. Domil and the Detalye Team collaborated and successfully conducted, “Looking and Embracing the Best Version of Oneself: Make-up and Grooming Festival”, a free make-up and grooming seminar to teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders at the SEPNAS Amphitheater last August 26, 2022.

Domil, the only left-handed make-up artist in Pangasinan is well-known for his excellent skill and creativity in enhancing his clients’ personality and charm in any occasion. He discussed and demonstrated modern ways of amplifying one’s physical beauty and personality through make-up and proper grooming.

Detalye Team on the other hand is an organization of professionals that caters to customers who wish to make their personal and family celebrations as meaningful and as exceptional as possible. It is managed by Dr. Maurison C. Aquino and Mr. Elmer R. Mustar II.

HANDOG-DAMIT, PINTUAN SA PAGHUBOG: A WHITE T-SHIRT GIFT FOR LESS FORTUNATE STUDENTS

COVID-19 pandemic brought a disruptive effect in the lives of each Filipino family particularly to their financial stability. Many of them lost their jobs, and worst, some of them lost their lives, too. With this, many are hesitant to send their children to school because of the thinking that they could not be able to support and provide their needs particularly their basic necessities as students such as their transportation expenses, school supplies, clothing, and the like. Hence, the Department of Education with the help of the teachers, school administrators, and other stakeholders work hand and hand to address these concerns by initiating various programs and projects which are responsive to the needs of the learners as the main participants of the learning process.

To help parents and learners in this time of crisis and ensure that learning continues amidst the disruptive effects of COVID-19, an initiated program Zumba for a Cause was conducted as a source of fund in purchasing 206 white T- shirts with SEPNAS logo which serve as a gift for the less fortunate but deserving Sepnasian students. Distribution of the white shirts was done during the conduct of Brigada Eskwela 2022, August 31, 2022, where there were 206 recipients of white T-shirts of the said activity. With this, students are motivated to go to school knowing that they are valued and supported by the school especially their teachers.

Hence, this project was made possible with the initiative and leadership of Dr. Cynthia F. Panuela, a Master Teacher and the former President of Faculty and Employees Club (FEC) and of course with the help and support of the alumni, school administrators, teachers, utility, retired teachers, students, and other stakeholders. Indeed, the Bayanihan spirit unleashed once more in helping the students in realization of their dreams through this simple act of kindness.

There were 191 recipients in this undertaking.

SHORT-RANGE TACTICAL ACTION FOR REDUCTION OF TRUANCY

At the present time, learning commitment of students and teachers within the school has been restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This situation was addressed by the Department of Education through the implementation of progressive expansion of face-to-face classes to guarantee continuity of education in the country. For the school year 2022-2023, Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School of Schools Division Office of San Carlos City adopted a slow transition into in-person classes by implementing blended learning, a combination of face to face and modular class.

Furthermore, it can be noted that the concept of education has greatly changed from teacher-centered instruction to diverse learner-centered learning modes. Teachers nowadays must play the roles of not only knowledge providers, but also learning agents who assist students to participate actively in class. With these in mind, the innovation front runner, initiated Project START (Short-range Tactical Action for Reduction of Truancy) as a means of enhancing the participation of students in the school. This project activity is a way to help the school address the present problem on truancy or non-attendance in the face to face or modular classes. It is a short-range deliberate action that aimed at motivating the learners who were noted by their science teachers as non-participative during their classes and have undergone enrichment classes offered during the school break of School Year 2021-2022. In addition, it aimed at extending help to the students to ensure their readiness for transition to the next grade level

by offering student consultation making use of online forums or face-to-face meetings, and by providing school supplies for them such as paper, ballpen, notebook, plastic envelope, and correction tape. The strategy of giving learning material incentives and consultations have been noted by the project front runner to be an effective innovative strategy in motivating school attendance and participation.

The innovator also considered Project START as a means of providing relevant contribution to the educational system and hoping that this would benefit the school administrators as well. The innovation project was believed to be of great value in providing insight in coming up with a plan for the improvement of academic performance of the learners. The collaboration between the students, parents, teachers, and stakeholders is thought to open a deeper and meaningful collaboration for the present school year and even year after.

This is believed to be of great importance for facilitators of learning too because it can advance opportunities for teachers to explore ideas and implement innovations in classroom instructions to improve students’ performance.

Parents as well were benefitted from this project. The result of the activity served as an enlightenment for playing important role in the studies of their children.

On the part of the students, they were the direct recipients of the project. The innovation project was specifically designed for enriching their enthusiasm and to serve as motivation for them to love education and develop lifelong learning.

For the education quality aspect, Project START sought to increase learner participation and reduce dropouts and improve education quality in SEPNAS to increase student performance. This is in recognition to DepEd Brigada Eskwela 2022 which seeks to promote collaboration for education resiliency. The innovation project was made possible by donations from the science teachers of SEPNAS and other stakeholders.

Rags For Some, Mask For Many

Rags Mo, Face Mask Ko Project (RMFKP) aims to provide face masks for the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel at Speaker Eugenio Perez National Agricultural School.

With this, the TVE Garments Teachers are initiating a project from rags to a useful face mask for students of SEPNAS. This project could help every student, as well as their family, teachers, and school personnel in preventing the spread of diseases or viruses. The proposed project leads an idea to TVE Garments teachers since last school year, students specialized in Garments-Dressmaking cut fabrics for their output such as short pants, skirts, blouses, polo, and long pants. More of the left swatches are abandoned in the corner, so to make these left swatches useful, the teachers decided to collect them for future use. This paves the way for the idea of preparing and converting the left fabric into a face mask.

Thus, I, as the proponent of this project decided to draft a shape for a face mask and prepare all the left materials before sewing them. A 10 x 10 inches swatch/fabric can create a one-face mask. Hence, with the materials that I have, I am certain that I can sew at least 200 face masks within the 10- day time frame of this project.

As a section  adviser under  the administration of our Principal IV, Dr. Marites V.

Cabatbat, the project proposal for innovation shall be implemented at SEPNAS particularly to some selected Grade - 8 students aiming for more meaningful and productive execution. To carry out this project, the proponent will request any amount from generous donors and stakeholders, particularly from the relatives and friends who are already successful in life. The proceeds of this project will be used to purchase tumblers which is the common need of the students. Despite the pandemic we are facing right now, this project will definitely be a motivation for students to continue their studies. It will also serve as an inspiration for them to persevere and finish their studies.

Rags For Some, Mask For Many

The human body needs water for the day to day survival. We may be able to survive without any food for a whole week but without water, we won't even survive for 3 days. Moreover, our body itself comprises of 70% of water. This, in turn, helps our body to function normally.

In connection to this, the students need potable water to drink at school because they will undergo face to face classes. They are encouraged to bring safe water in a presentable and durable container so that they won’t have to buy expensive bottled water for them to save money moreover buying of  soft drinks will be avoided to have a healthy lifestyle. Aside from this, garbage will also be reduced in the school because plastic cups will no longer be used.

The purpose of this project, P.A.G.I.B.I.G. sa Brigada   (Pakikipagkapwa     Asahang Gagampanan  ko  Ibabahagi  mga   Biyayang   Ipinagkaloob   para   Gamitin mo)    is to provide   the students  with  a free  tumbler  that  they  can  use  when  they  go  to  school . This  aims to ensure that every learner would have safe water to drink as it comes from their house hold. Hence, diseases that may caused by consuming contaminated water will be prevented. In additon to this, this project could be of helped especially the parents to ease their expenses and they could save as much as an average of twenty (20) pesos per day and even more, if we view it in a wider perspective. We know that this pandemic has turned everyone’s life harder. Apart from giving the students a tumbler, it is also a big help for parents to reduce their expenses in a simple way.
